LESSON IN HOUSEKEEPING
This conveyor drive in the roof of a fertiliser works was found to be heavily contaminated with lime dust. The small part of the motor surface that remained exposed showed an external temperature of approximately 122°C so probably around 140-150°C inside. Ridiculously hot.
A quick flick with a broom cleared away most of the dust and the motor was re-inspected the following day.
The external temperature had dropped to 54°C!
The issue was reported to management with appropriate recommendations concerning plant cleanliness and cooling. Several years later there was a fire in the roof of this building. Just saying.
